Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, upon notice, on 24 August 1984:

(1) How many word processors, stenographers and typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, how many such staff have been, or are, off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.


Senator Ryan —The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) Two word processing operators, 23 stenographers and 59 typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, two stenographers and one typist were off work with repetition strain injury; a further one stenographer and four typists have the symptoms associated with repetition strain injury and are now employed on non- repetitive administrative duties.
