(Question No. 1070)

Senator Bolkus asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce, upon notice, on 24 August 1984:

(1) How many word processors, stenographers and typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, how many such staff have been, or are, off work with repetition strain injury.

Senator Button —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

(1) The Department employs a total of 248 staff on keyboard duties in the following categories: 40 word processors, 73 stenographers and 135 typists.

(2) A total of 42 staff have been, or are, off work as of 1 September 1984 as a consequence of repetition strain injury or suspected RSI. The breakdown of work categories is 11 word processors, 14 stenographers and 17 typists.
