Senator CHANEY —Mr question, which is addressed to the Attorney-General, follows his answers in which he has expressed great satisfaction about the tradition of fighting organised crime. Is he satisfied that his initial responses as Attorney -General to the Humphreys case, to the New South Wales early prisoner release scheme allegations and to the Age tapes were adequate in light of subsequent developments? I ask the Attorney whether he can honestly claim that he has at all times acted to protect the public rather than the Government and Australian Labor Party interests in these matters.

Senator GARETH EVANS —Yes, on all counts, Mr Deputy President. I will not dignify the rest of it with an answer.
