Senator MACKLIN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate- (a) condemns the Government's decision to place its political fortunes ahead of the universally significant tropical rainforests of North Queensland, particularly in the Daintree region;

(b) condemns the deliberate and wilful misrepresentation of Federal Government Ministers that the Federal Government lacks the power to act until the Daintree region is nominated or on the World Heritage List;

(c) condemns the Federal Government's total failure to act to preserve Australia's unique world heritage areas in North Queensland by abdicating responsibility for their nomination for the World Heritage List to the Queensland Government; and

(d) calls on the Government to regulate now, under section 3 (2) (ii) (a) of the World Heritage Properties Conservation Act 1983, to save the Daintree rainforest by preventing any further construction on the road, and to nominate the area for World Heritage listing by December 31, 1984.
