(Question Nos. 1000-1027)

Senator Archer asked all Ministers, upon notice, on 21 August 1984:

(1) What new authorities, committees and bureaus or other such groups

(a) have been established; or

(b) are proposed by, or within, the Department

which are in addition to the reply furnished recently, by the Minister, to 30 June 1984.

(2) How many additional staff

(a) have been, or are now being appointed, or

(b) are proposed to be recruited as a result

which are in addition to information supplied in the recent reply as at 30 June 1984.

Senator Button —The Prime Minister has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question, on behalf of all Ministers, with their concurrence:

(1) and (2) The information sought by the honourable senator on the establishment or proposed establishment of new authorities, committees and bureaus or other such groups by or within the various Departments is, in almost every case, already publicly available; for example, in ministerial Press statements, which are circulated to all members of Parliament and published in the Commonwealth Record, or the annual reports of departments which are tabled in both Houses of the Parliament. Further relevant information may be found in the Commonwealth Government Directory and the Budget Papers.

The honourable senator has received, or will shortly receive, answers to Questions Nos. 517-544 which he asked of all Ministers. Considerable time and expense were involved in the preparation of those replies. In the circumstances, I am not prepared to continue to authorise the work and expenditure required to collate the information requested through repeated questions of this nature. However, if the honourable senator wishes to have information concerning a particular authority, committee, bureau or other such group, I shall be happy to see if he can be provided with the requested information.
