To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in the Parliament assembled: We the undersigned, being citizens of Australia, respectfully submit that the Government

1. Clearly and unequivocally condemns the continuing breaches of the international Covenants on civil, political and human rights by the Government of Poland;

2. Demands from the Polish authorities an immediate end to torture, beatings, physical coercion and psychological maltreatment of people remaining in prison for their political beliefs and attitudes;

3. Acts immediately for the release of all people who remain in Polish prisons for their attempts to exercise civil, political and human rights guaranteed to them by Polish Constitution and the international Covenants;

4. Sends an official legal observer to the trial of the four KSS-KOR defendants : Mr Jacek Kuron, Mr Adam Michnik, Mr Zbigniew Romaszewski and Mr Henryk Wujec. The defendants are going on trial on July 13th 1984 on charges of plotting to overthrow the Polish Communist State.
