Senator Messner asked the Minister representing the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, upon notice, on 10 May 1984:

(1) How many people are presently employed under the Government's community employment program and in which States/Territories.

(2) How many people were employed under that program as at 30 June 1983, and in which States/Territories.

Senator Button —The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) Up to 6 July 1984 an estimated 30,300 people have been placed under the community employment program (CEP). A disaggregation of this estimate by States/ Territories is not available.

(2) None. The CEP was officially launched on 1 August 1983 and the first projects were approved on 3 October 1983.
