(Question No. 788)

Senator Jones asked the Minister representing the Minister for Health, upon notice, on 2 April 1984:

Has the Minister for Health considered including universal dental cover in the Medicare scheme in the near future; if not, will he detail the obstacles to implementing such a scheme and give an indication of whether the Government is prepared to investigate its feasibility and what increase in the existing levy, if any, would be necessary to provide dental cover.

Senator Grimes —The Minister for Health has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

I have initiated a major review of the Medical Benefits Schedule and the question of extending benefits to provide universal dental cover under Medicare will be considered in this review. I hope to be in a position to announce details of the review shortly.
