(Question No. 742)

Senator Macklin asked the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 28 March 1984:

(1) Are there any investigations currently taking place by the Trade Practices Commission with regard to sections 46 and 49 of the Trade Practices Act?

(2) Is Kalamazoo (Australia) Pty Ltd subject to any such investigation?

Senator Gareth Evans —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

(1) Yes.

(2) Yes. The Trade Practices Commission is currently making inquiries of a preliminary nature into certain allegations which have been made against Kalamazoo (Australia) Pty Ltd. Those allegations have been denied by Kalamazoo ( Australia) Pty Ltd and the Commission should not be taken as having reached a conclusion that any breaches of the Act have occurred.
