Senator PETER RAE(5.12) —The concern which has been expressed by Senator Jack Evans has been made known to a wide cross-section of members of the Parliament. It is a legitimate concern for the people of the area. However, there is also a very legitimate concern for the future of the southern blue fin tuna fishery. I felt that that was perhaps not put as strongly as it should have been in balance in the comments that were made. I want to add the concern that action should be taken urgently to get the Japanese and others involved in a quota control system which will enable a maximisation of Australian participation in the exploitation at reasonable levels of the southern blue fin tuna fishery. I see Senator Jack Evans nodding agreement. There is no disagreement between us. I make no further comment.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
