(Question No. 674)

Senator Colston asked the Minister representing the Minister for Administrative Services, upon notice, on 2 March 1984:

Do any Commonwealth Government departments use envelopes carrying the initials 'OHMS'; if so, what departments and what is the necessity for having these initials printed on envelopes.

Senator Gietzelt —The Minister for Administrative Services has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

Envelopes carrying the initials 'OHMS' are used by the Departments of Defence, Resources and Energy, Trade and Transport, and by some regional offices in the Departments of Administrative Services, Education and Youth Affairs, Science and Technology and Veterans' Affairs. There is no necessity for using envelopes carrying these initials. Departments continue to use the envelopes for one of two reasons:

(a) following historical precedent; or

(b) using up old stock, or stock obtained through longstanding contracts.
