(Question No. 486)

Senator Colston asked the Minister representing the Minister for Communications , upon notice, on 8 November 1983:

Has Telecom Australia received representation from the subscribers of the Yalleroi telephone exchange in relation to charges under the Countrywide Calling system; if so, does Telecom agree with the subscribers' claim that 'Countrywide Calling' is 'one of the greatest confidence tricks of all times' and does Telecom intend to review the charges about which the Yalleroi subscribers complain.

Senator Button —The Minister for Communications has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question, based on advice from the Australian Telecommunications Commission:

I refer to the honourable senator to my reply to question No. 483.

A review has been carried out in the Yalleroi area and Telecom has found it practicable to restore local call access to Blackall for Yalleroi subscribers until such time as the Yalleroi exchange is converted to automatic working.
