Senator SCOTT (Leader of the National Part of Australia) —On my own behalf and on behalf of the National Party of Australia I want to be associated with the motion of condolence to the wife and family of Kevin Cairns. I did not know Kevin Cairns as well as many of my colleagues. I did know him quite well and I certainly knew him well enough to recognise him as a very friendly character. He had a fine, analytical mind. I am sure he must have been one of the most sincere and effective representatives of the people in this country.

This is an occasion on which we have been robbed, from the point of view of his family and Australia in general, of a man at a far too young an age who had a great deal to contribute. I express sincere, personal sympathy and the sympathy of my Party to his widow and family.
