(Question No. 684)

Senator Gareth Evans —The Minister for Foreign Affairs has provided the following supplementary answer to Senator Watson's question:

The outcome of the review on civil aviation links with southern Africa was announced by the Minister for Aviation on 25 March, after the preparation of the earlier answer. Following consultation with me it was decided that the Government would take no steps to change the status quo in air services with southern Africa. That means that Qantas will continue to operate one weekly Boeing 747 flight from Sydney to Harare via Perth and that SAA will maintain its weekly Boeing 747 flight from Johannesburg to Sydney via Mauritius and Perth.
