Senator HARRADINE(9.14) —I am opposed to this motion. The matter under consideration was referred to the Select Committee on the Conduct of a Judge by the Senate. Of course 1 August will be a non-sitting day--

Senator Jack Evans —No, it is the first sitting day in August.

Senator HARRADINE —In fact, my opposition to the motion is based on the fact that the report could be made on a day that the Senate is not sitting. In view of the fact that this matter has been referred to a Committee of the Senate which has been delegated to examine the evidence and report back to the Senate, I believe that it would only be proper for the report to be made to this Senate and be in the hands of all honourable senators prior to the matter being published. This would enable all honourable senators to take note of the statement and make any reference to it that they deem desirable at the time. To have the matter reported publicly prior to it being in the hands of the honourable senators who delegated the Committee to undertake this task would in fact be a denial of the rights of honourable senators to examine the report first and to make their comments in view of their responsibility to represent their constituents adequately.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
