Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition) —by leave-To avoid undue perturbation on the Opposition back bench, I say that the Opposition certainly wishes to discuss the notice of motion which has been given by the Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator Button). There have been some discussions, including discussion with the Manager of Government Business in the Senate, about the pattern of sittings for this extended period. Undoubtedly, most Opposition senators have made arrangements which would be very severely affected by this proposal. I give the Government notice now that we wish to discuss it because the sitting hours proposed would be impossible for a large number of honourable senators. I indicate to the Opposition, with whom I have not had a chance to discuss this matter, that there are obvious difficulties involved for us. I will take those difficulties up with the Leader of the Government in the Senate, the Australian Democrats and Senator Harradine.
