Senator Maguire asked the Minister representing the Treasurer, upon notice, on 2 May 1984:

(1) Does the document 'Taxation Statistics 1981-82', supplement to the 61st report to Parliament of the Commissioner of Taxation, contain on pages 103 to 104 numbers of taxpayers, taxable incomes and net tax paid on a postcode basis in South Australia.

(2) Can further information be provided for postcodes in the Adelaide metropolitan area as follows: (a) numbers of taxpayers claiming dependent spouse , daughter-housekeeper and housekeeper rebates; and (b) numbers of taxpayers claiming the full ($830) dependent spouse, et cetera rebates.

Senator Walsh —The Treasurer has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) Pages 103 to 104 of 'Taxation Statistics 1981-82', the supplement to the 61st report to Parliament of the Commissioner of Taxation, set out information relating to the numbers of taxpayers, taxable incomes and net tax assessed classified by residential postcode, within each electoral division. Generally, separate details have been shown in respect of each postcode with 1,000 or more taxpayers in the 1981-82 income year. The information relates to taxable individuals only and reflects assessments made in the period 1 July 1982-30 June 1983.

(2) The items number of taxpayers, taxable income and net tax assessed are the only data which are classified by postcode. Accordingly, statistics of (a) numbers of taxpayers claiming dependent spouse, daughter-housekeeper and housekeeper rebates; and (b) numbers of taxpayers claiming the full ($830) dependent spouse, et cetera, rebate, dissected by postcode within the Adelaide metropolitan area are not available.
