Senator MACKLIN(4.59) —I am happy with the suggestion to send the idea to the Joint Select Committee on Electoral Reform. I hope that something will be able to be done prior to the next election, because I feel that the problem I suggested is likely to decrease with elections rather than increase. It is really only at the next election that such a large problem might occur. I think following that it is likely to be less of a problem as people become more familiar with the new format. However, I would like some assurance, before I withdraw the amendment, that we will be able to have an opportunity, if the Joint Select Committee on Electoral Reform so decides, to discuss this matter, prior to the next election.
