Senator CRICHTON-BROWNE(5.52) —The Attorney-General has just moved me to take a position. Every time the Attorney insults somebody he loses a friend but, more importantly, he loses a vote. Let me make it quite clear: I am entitled to ask a question. I did not have time to read one segment relating to this matter. His contribution did not enlighten me or anybody else one bit.

Amendment agreed to.

Proposed new clause 10A (Performance of functions).

The CHAIRMAN —The Committee may recall that previously we dealt with and in many respects disposed of Government amendment No. (9) to insert new clauses 10 and 10A. The problem is that because of the way in which we are handling this Bill, by subject, there are other matters concerning those new clauses that were not dealt with at the time. There are proposed amendments to new clause 10A on the subject of power to interview. Subject to the agreement of the Committee, I am prepared to accept amendments to clause 10A.

Leave granted.
