Senator DURACK(4.42) —At this stage I intended to move amendment (19A) in respect of the quorum for hearings. However, I shall postpone moving that amendment because, on further consideration arising out of the previous debate I would like to redraft the amendment to provide that there should be at least one lawyer at a hearing. Indeed, if only one person is to conduct a hearing, we think that person ought to be a lawyer. I would just like to have the opportunity to redraft that amendment. Obviously a lot more debate will take place in the Committee.

The CHAIRMAN —As we are considering the Bill as a whole the honourable senator can bring it on at any time he likes before we conclude consideration of the Bill. I will give him an opportunity to do that before the Bill is completed.

Senator DURACK —In the spirit of co-operation, I would like the Attorney-General (Senator Gareth Evans) to indicate whether he has any great objections to what I propose.
