Senator CROWLEY —My question is to the Minister representing the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Has the Minister's attention been drawn to reports of an Australian athlete, Peter Parcell, being put under house arrest in the Philippines allegedly for failure to pay a phone bill to an American businessman in America? Can the Minister say whether these reports are accurate? Is it usual for an Australian citizen to be held in one country for alleged crimes in another country, neither of which is Australia? What is the current position regarding the Australian athlete? What further steps, if any, will the Government consider taking in this situation?

Senator GARETH EVANS —I have had no briefing on this matter. I will take the question on notice and secure an answer as soon as possible for Senator Crowley.
