The Clerk-Petitions have been lodged for presentation as follows:

Consumer Electronic Equipment

To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled.

The petitioners of the Electrical Trades Union of New South Wales respectfully showeth that there is grave concern at the recommendations of the Industries Assistance Commission in respect of certain electronics equipment and components (particularly in the colour television industry) and the effect these recommendations will have on employment in this industry if accepted.

Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that your Honourable House will take action to protect the employment and technological expertise of this industry. Such action should be that of a global quota system maintaining the present 95 per cent of the market to Australian manufacturers and an increase in the local content factor to at least 55 per cent on large screen (20" and above) colour televisions.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
