Senator GIETZELT (Minister for Veterans' Affairs)(5.35) —The Department of Aviation currently is carrying out a departmental inquiry specifically for the purpose of search and rescue arrangements. The honourable senator has raised a matter about which he is obviously concerned. Indeed the Government and the Department are concerned about this. I am advised that that report is close to being finalised but not available at this time when the estimates are being considered by the Senate. All I can say is that the Government shares the honourable senator's concern that it is a matter that requires some investigation and determination so that we have satisfactory arrangements in hand that will enable problems that have occurred in the past to be avoided. I give the honourable senator an assurance that, before the Senate rises, it is probable that we will have that report to hand. When it is available it will certainly be made available to the Senate.
