Senator Dame MARGARET GUILFOYLE — I ask the Minister representing the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations to inform the Senate of the up to date position regarding the claim of the Federated Furnishing Trades Society of Australasia for an $11.90 allowance. What action is being taken to avoid a flow- on to Federated Ironworkers Association of Australia members? Are reports that the Minister plans partial deregistration of the Federated Furnishing Trades Society accurate? If so, when will the submission be made to the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission?

Senator BUTTON —I qualify what I shall say by stating that my information is probably two or three days old and I should like to seek a more up to date answer for the honourable senator from the Minister. But certainly, as at two or three days ago, what I can perhaps call negotiations were going on between the Minister, the relevant union and the employing companies involved in separate sets of negotiations, as I understand it. With regard to the possible question of deregistration of the Federated Furnishing Trades Society, that is certainly an option which has received consideration.
