Senator ARCHER(10.23) —On 18 October 1982 the present Minister for Primary Industry (Mr Kerin) made a Press statement part of which states:

This is about the only time recently Mr Nixon has acted before a crisis occurred, and this time his actions have created the crisis. Mr Nixon's actions in advising the ADC not to proceed with the sale of the half-share in P.T. Indomilk to P.T.K.B. was ill advised. It was not up to Mr Nixon to intervene in a commercial transaction.

Did Mr Nixon actually intervene to prevent that sale, or did the Department of Primary Industry assist, intervene in or prevent the making of that sale in any way? Did the Department of Foreign Affairs intervene and say whether the sale was desirable or not or whether there were more or less desirable potential buyers? Did the Department of Foreign Affairs make any recommendations or give any advice to the Department of Primary Industry in the matter?
