Senator GRIMES (Minister for Social Security)(10.17) —We could go on with this nonsense all night. The fact is that our share of the Japanese beef market has been going down and down for years-before the Labor Government got in -and Senator MacGibbon knows it. I believe-and the honourable senator will obviously disagree-that we have done all we can, all anyone can, in the circumstances to preserve that share of the market. It was unrealistic to suggest that we would retain that 88 per cent share. The beef producers know this, and the manufacturing industry knows this. For Senator MacGibbon to get up and suggest that this has all occurred in the time of the Labor Government is nonsense. He knows it, and the figures do not back it up.
