Senator WALTERS(8.22) —I agree with the Minister on that, as he would well know. The Department says that there is no precision about the figure, that it is a very general estimate, but the Minister seems to be saying that the figure indicates a correct magnitude. What the Minister is hanging his hat on is that the word 'magnitude' is used. I suppose I have to leave it at that. During the Estimates Committee hearing an officer told me that Professor McNeil had been invited to join the Department. I gathered at that time that he thought Professor McNeil had joined the Department and he was going to bring me up to date on the matter. I gather the professor has not yet answered. Can the Minister tell me whether there is any more up to date information on whether Professor McNeil will be joining the Department to examine the methodology used by the Department following his criticisms.
