Senator HARRADINE —Mr Acting Deputy President, I seek leave to make a personal explanation as I claim to have been misrepresented.

Leave granted.

Senator HARRADINE —Senator Chipp indicated during his speech that he was distressed that there were no senators in the chamber.

Senator Chipp —No, speaking on the motion.

Senator HARRADINE —Well, I want to assure him that I was in the chamber for a significant portion of the debate. For a short period during Senator Chipp's speech I was not here but I could hear him over the intercom. Even if I had had the intercom turned off I probably could have heard him. I understood that a number of honourable senators wished to speak but I also understood that the mover of the motion for the second reading of this Bill wanted it to reach a conclusion today. I assure Senator Chipp that on any other occasion I would be happy to involve myself in a debate on this issue.
