Senator GARETH EVANS —Following the question today from Senator Chaney about the allegations that were made in bankruptcy proceedings by a Mr Anderson, I received a message during Question Time from my permanent head, Mr Brazil, that when he discussed this matter with Mr Temby this morning he was orally advised that, in Mr Temby's view, there is nothing in the material warranting investigation and that standing alone it was, in the view of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Special Prosecutor, worthless. It may be that I will get a more formal response from Mr Temby in due course, but it would not appear to me, in the light of what I know of the background of this matter and, more particularly, of Mr Temby's reaction, that any further investigation would be likely to be productive.
