Senator PRIMMER —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Can he advise the Senate of progress into parliamentary and media allegations that the outgoing head of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr Henderson, evaded Customs duty and quarantine restrictions by misusing the diplomatic bag to import jewellery, expensive perfume, a riding saddle and other items for personal use? Is it a fact that charges of evasion of Customs duty against a Foreign Affairs officer in 1975 were hastily withdrawn when the defendant named other malefactors, including Mr Henderson, who was the First Assistant Secretary, Management and Foreign Service Division, at the time?

Senator GARETH EVANS —That question was referred by me to Mr Hayden, who will no doubt answer it in his own way and in his own time.
