Senator GRIMES (Minister for Social Security)(11.48) —A question was asked at page 14 of Hansard of 30 April. The reply that was given to members of the Committee was that information about costs was not available by class of travel, but accounts show that 144 first class and 2,239 economy trips were undertaken in the period from 1 January 1984 to 31 March 1984. We know the number of trips but apparently it is not possible to break down the costs by class of travel.

Senator Walters —That is why I asked for a guesstimate and a guesstimate was offered to me.

Senator GRIMES —I am informed that no guesstimate was made because, although it is possible, it would be extremely time-consuming to break down the actual cost between first and economy class trips. If the honourable senator insists I will see what we can do, but that is the information given to me.
