Senator Button —I seek leave to present a petition from 146 citizens which is not in conformity with the Standing Orders.

Leave granted.

The petition read as follows:

We, the undersigned, being aware of the Draft Report from the Industries Assistance Commission on Certain Electronic Equipment and Components, wish to express our concern for the effect of the recommendation contained in the draft, on the employment in, and the viability of Colour Television Manufacturing in Australia.

We believe the mass production of consumer electronic equipment, particularly of colour television receivers, forms the logical industrial base to take advantage of the opportunity to supply the needs of the constantly expanding use of electronic assemblies in almost all fields of manufacturing.

We therefore petition the Senate to ensure that measures (of which tariff is only one) be adopted to retain the 95% share of the large screen television market for Australian manufacture.
