Senator HAINES(4.34) —Although I certainly respect the comments which have come from the Minister for Social Security (Senator Grimes) and the Minister for Veterans' Affairs (Senator Gietzelt) I find it is somewhat of an absurd situation. Senator Messner has quoted from a report he has. I intended to refer too to the photocopy of a report that fell off the back of a truck into my hands. I presume it is the same report as the one to which Senator Messner referred. Unfortunately, I will not know that until Senator Messner's report has been tabled. It is unfortunate that the original of this was a report to the Prime Minister (Mr Hawke) but has nevertheless been leaked. If it has been leaked, if it is in the hands of some of us, if it is in the hands of the media, it is incumbent on this House to decide whether it is a genuine report. Notwithstanding whether it is genuine, it is certainly floating about. It is being discussed. Hiding it will not contribute in any way at all to the debate. We certainly support the tabling of the document.
