Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition) —I seek leave to make a very brief statement, Mr President, so that what I am going to do will be made quite clear to the Senate and there is no misunderstanding.

Senator CHANEY —I understand now that on the basis that if I move my motion and then adjourn debate on it to a later hour this day, there is a preparedness on the part of the Government and the Australian Democrats to agree to Standing Orders being suspended to allow the moving--

The PRESIDENT —Do you mean that you would adjourn the rearrangement motion?

Senator CHANEY —Yes. So I shall seek the carriage of the motion to suspend Standing Orders, move the motion that I indicated I would move, and then seek to adjourn debate on it until a later hour this day.
