Food Labelling

(Question No. 761)

Mr Kelvin Thomson asked the Minister for Trade and Investment, in writing on, 12 May 2015:

(1) Will signing the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) create legal issues for the Government if it subsequently proceeds with strengthening food labelling and monitoring standards.

(2) Can foreign corporations sue the Government under a potential investor-state-dispute settlement provision that may be contained in the TPP in respect of possible changes in food labelling and food standards laws.

Mr Robb: The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) No.

(2) No. Australia's ability to regulate food labelling and food standards will not be diminished by the TPP.
