Dr Southcott asked the Minister for Employment Participation, in writing, on 27 November 2008:

In respect of the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator program: what action has he taken to address the performance of Disability Works Australia who, according to the 2007-08 Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Annual Report, placed 608 job seekers when the target was 1000.

Mr Brendan O’Connor (Minister for Employment Participation) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

Disability Works Australia and the Department have been working together to implement strategies to increase the number of job placements. One strategy that is being implemented is to increase the number of employers with which the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator works, to identify a greater range of vacancies across geographical locations and industry sectors. It is intended that a more diverse range of job vacancies will then be referred to the relevant Disability Employment Network members and Vocational Rehabilitation Service providers.
