Mr Hawker asked the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, in writing, on 10 November 2008:

In respect of the Government’s election promise to provide $110 million to duplicate the Princes Highway west of Geelong: (a) has the Victorian Government given a firm commitment to provide its share of the funding, and what sum is the State’s share; (b) when will the work commence; (c) what is the estimated date of completion; (d) how far will the duplication extend; and (e) will the Government consider further duplication west; if so, when will such duplication commence and how far will it extend.

Mr Albanese (Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

The Australian Government has committed $110 million to duplicate the Princes Highway West from west of Waurn Ponds to Winchelsea. The Victorian Government has committed $110 million to match this commitment. In our first Budget we brought forward $1 million to get planning on this project underway. This planning work, which has started, will confirm the construction timeframes for the project.
