To the Honourable the speaker and members of the House of Representatives assembled in Parliament:

The petition of certain citizens of Australia draws to the attention of the House that Kristina Nievens is a woman at risk in her home country in need of protection. I am aware and informed of the following concerning Krishna Nievens who is currently being held in the Villawood, Retention Centre.

that she entered Australia on illegal documents and used false names

know of her circumstances and why she came to Australia. That she was witness to a murder and was seriously sexually assaulted by her employers and police

that she has been in Villawood Detention Centre since May 2002

that she has since her detention had both limited and irregular visits from her son Andrew

know of the circumstances of Krishna's relationship with the father of her child and the consequent break down of this relationship

that her son Andrew is an Australian citizen and was 5 months old when Krishna was taken into detention

that Andrew was in Krishna's sole custody when she was taken into detention and only now, as a consequence of her detention, does the father have temporary custody.

Your petitioners therefore ask the House to support her application to stay in Australia and be permanently reunited with her son.

by Mr Murphy (from 10 citizens)
