Miss JACKIE KELLY (Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister) (11:01 AM) —It is not, I suppose, within the ambit of government to go through a number of hypotheticals—especially not for the Attorney-General's department when it is clearly a matter for the Department of the Treasury. If the government's intention is not carried through, there is obviously an opportunity, as there is in any matter, for the government to look at further legislation. Certainly it is a matter for the Treasurer to have broad-ranging discussions with the states and territories, reach some agreement, come to the formation of an intention and then prosecute it.

Proposed expenditure agreed to.

Department of Family and Community Services
