(Question No. 5218)

Mr Beddall asked the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Tourism, upon notice, on 20 March 1987:

(1) Which company was chosen as the major contractor to build the Brisbane Expo 88 site.

(2) Have all contracts awarded to companies been the subject of correct tendering procedures, if not, why not.

(3) Which company has been awarded the majority of contracts.

(4) Is he satisfied with the Queensland Government's handling of the tendering procedures, if not, why not.

Mr John Brown —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

The Queensland legislation established the Brisbane and South Bank Redevelopment Authority to acquire and develop the site, market and organise Expo 88 and dispose of the site afterwards. Responsibility for contracts rest with the Authority. The tendering procedures are therefore not within the Commonwealth's responsibility.
