Mr DAWKINS (Minister for Trade) —For the information of the House, I present the text of a statement relating to Australia's role in achieving world agricultural trade reform.

Motion (by Mr Young) proposed:

That the House take note of the paper.

Mr N.A. Brown —I move:

That the debate be adjourned.

In moving that the debate be adjourned, Madam Speaker, I again draw your attention to the fact that this is the text of a statement that is being tabled. It is on an issue which is probably the most important economic matter facing Western societies-and probably others as well-and apparently there is to be no opportunity to debate this matter. It is simply not good enough that during Question Time the Minister for Trade ranted and raved on irrelevancies when he could have been speaking about this subject. In moving that the debate be adjourned, I want to know whether there will be an opportunity to debate this statement and, if so, when.

Mr Young —Madam Speaker, we are also very desirous of having the statement debated. But the problem the Opposition faces is that it makes one decision here about the conduct of business and another decision in the other place, which does cause problems with the presentation of statements. But I will see what can be done about bringing this statement back on.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
