Mr BEALE —Madam Speaker, I wish to make a personal explanation.

Madam SPEAKER —Does the honourable member claim to have been misrepresented?

Mr BEALE —Yes, Madam Speaker.

Madam SPEAKER —The honourable member may proceed.

Mr BEALE —Twice in answer to a question today in the House the Minister for Housing and Construction (Mr West) referred to the fact that I, as the shadow Minister for Housing and Construction, had prepared the housing and construction policy of the Liberal and National parties. He said twice that `it would terminate public housing funding'. I read from that policy:

Consistent with its view that the States are the most appropriate authorities to identify and manage public housing requirements, the next Liberal/National Party Government will terminate the Commonwealth-State Housing Agreement and absorb the funds into the financial assistance grants to the States.

It is quite clear from the policy that the Minister has grossly misrepresented me.

Madam SPEAKER —Order! The honourable member has made his point. He will now not debate the issue.

Mr BEALE —He has grossly misrepresented me in that we would terminate the Agreement but we would not stop funding for public housing to the States.

Madam SPEAKER —Order! The honourable member will not continue. He will resume his seat.
