Mr BEALE —Mr Deputy Speaker, I seek leave to make a personal explanation.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Leo McLeay) —Does the honourable member claim to have been misrepresented?

Mr BEALE —Yes, I do.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER —The honourable member may proceed.

Mr BEALE —Mr Deputy Speaker, the Minister for Housing and Construction (Mr West) twice during his reply on the matter of public importance today said that I had been to his Department to seek details of how to abolish the first home owners scheme. The Minister has misrepresented me in two ways. Firstly, the visit to the Department was made before the Liberal and National parties released their policy on housing and construction. The Minister did not make that clear. As the visit was made before the release of the document, any discussions I had were clearly superseded by the release of the document. Secondly, all I did was ask for the financial details if the first home owners scheme were allowed to run down. That had nothing to do with the abolition of the scheme. The Liberal and National parties are committed to maintaining the first home owners scheme and to honouring existing entitlements to that scheme.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER —Order! The honourable member is now debating the matter. The discussion is concluded.
