Mr HURFORD (Minister for Community Services and Minister Assisting the Treasurer)(5.30) —I move:

That the Bill be now read a second time.

In this Appropriation (Parliamentary Departments) Bill (No. 2) 1986-87 appropriations totalling $1.2m additional to those made in the Appropriation (Parliamentary Departments) Act 1986-87 are sought for the recurrent and capital purposes of the parliamentary departments. The principal reason for the increase sought is the re-appropriation of certain amounts necessitated by the transfer of responsibility for the security of Parliament House from the Joint House Department to the Department of the Senate and the Department of the House of Representatives. That is, each chamber department will be responsible for its own security as from 1 January 1987. The transfer was approved by the Presiding Officers. Details of the proposed additional expenditures are set out in the Schedule to the Bill. I commend the Bill to the House.

Debate (on motion by Mr Tim Fischer) adjourned.
