To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled, Parliament house, Canberra, A.C.T. 2600.

We, your petitioners, humbly showeth:

That Australia has over 2,500 threatened species of native plants and animals. All these species face extinction if their habitats are not properly protected.

Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that your Honourable House:

Call upon the Commonwealth Government in co-operation with the States and Territories to urgently institute protective legislation for endangered species and their habitats throughout Australia.

And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
