To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Parliament assembled. The humble petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth:

That we regard the term ``Greek'' as being a derogatory remark. That we are offended by reference to the country called ``Greece''. That that country is officially known as the republic of the Hellenes or as Hellas, and its citizens and descendants as Hellenes.

And that we wish that the Parliament take note of the wishes of the Hellenic people to be known as Hellenes.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
