Mr CARLTON —I address my question to the Minister for Science and Minister Assisting the Treasurer on Prices. Is he aware that the price of a haircut has risen from $6.50 in March 1983 to $10 today, a rise of 54 per cent? Is he also aware that the price of a full beard trim has risen over the same period from $5 to $7, a rise of 40 per cent? Can the Minister explain why the hirsute have been so badly penalised under the Hawke Government?

Mr BARRY JONES —The answers to the first and second parts of the question are yes and yes. As to the last matter, haircuts and beard trims are a matter for State governments.
