(Question No. 4840)

Mr Moore asked the Minister for Local Government and Administrative Services, upon notice, on 23 October 1986:

How will the objectives of the Office of Local Government of the Department of Local Government and Administrative Services, as stated in the 1984-85 annual report of his Department, be achieved as efficiently as they have without the work of the Advisory Council for Inter-government Relations.

Mr Uren —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

A minimal amount of the Office of Local Government's work is currently related to the type of work undertaken by the Advisory Council for Inter-government Relations (ACIR).

Given the assessment of the Task Group which reviewed ACIR that ``There were few major issues remaining in the local government area that were considered to require investigation by the ACIR at this time'', it is likely that this situation would have continued to prevail, regardless of the fate of the ACIR.
