(Question No. 4746)

Mr Langmore asked the Minister for Housing and Construction, upon notice, on 9 October 1986:

(1) What is the (a) annual salary and (b) hourly rate of pay of (i) a Draughting Officer Grade 2 and (ii) a Senior Technical Officer.

(2) What is the hourly rate of the nearest equivalent of a (a) Draughting Officer Grade 2 and (b) Senior Technical Officer employed on contract from a private firm.

Mr West —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) (a) (i) $26,555; (ii) $28,790; (b) (i) $13.85; (ii) $15.02.

(2) (a) My Department's Regional administrative units are negotiating rates in the following range for personnel that roughly equate Draughting Officer Grade 2:

ACT... $16.00-$19.00

NSW... $18.00-$24.00

Qld... $15.00-$18.00

SA/NT... $17.00-$25.00

Tindal Project NT... $24.00-$35.00

Vic./Tas... $12.50-$23.00

WA... $19.00-$19.50

Rates are negotiated with firms supplying such labour on the basis of the qualifications and level of expertise sought, the scope and duration of the task, and availability of such personnel. Rates include the firm's profit and its overheads.

(2) (b) My Department does not normally engage personnel as `Senior Technical Officers'. To the extent that such staff are engaged, rates vary from $18.50-$34.90, depending upon the task and market factors.
