(Question No. 4425)

Mr Price asked the Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs, upon notice, on 20 August 1986:

(1) Were workload studies undertaken at the Sydney regional office and the Parramatta area office of his Department.

(2) What were the results of the studies.

(3) Did the studies show that the Parramatta office was understaffed and the Sydney office overstaffed.

(4) Has any action been taken as a result of the studies.

(5) Has his Department failed to transfer staff to Parramatta because of an antipathy towards the Western suburbs; if not, what was the reason.

Mr Hurford —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) Yes.

(2) and (3) The data collected in the studies has not been fully analysed. Preliminary assessment suggests some imbalance in resource allocation between the two offices.

(4) and (5) Staffing at the Parramatta office has been and is being increased. By October the approved staffing level of the Parramatta office will have increased by about 17 since early 1986. This increase clearly demonstrates a commitment to servicing the Western suburbs of Sydney.
